Chevy’s all electric five door sub-compact hatchback at Sandpoint Chevrolet dealer is the latest head turner in the Electric Vehicle (EV) segment with its contemporary looks, spacious interiors, advanced technology and fantastic ride quality. The Bolt EV has an impressive lineup of awards and recognition such as the North American Car of the Year, Most Green Car of the Year from various rating agencies and the press. With most companies going green with their releases we decided to explore how eco-friendly is the new Chevrolet Bolt EV that comes in two trims – the LT and Premier.
The Front Wheel Drive Chevrolet Bolt EV has a jaw dropping 238 EPA-Estimated mileage on a full charge using a 60kWh battery. This is equivalent to driving a gasoline fueled vehicle that has an equivalent mileage of 119 mpg-e as per EPA estimates under specific test conditions which makes it extremely eco-friendly. The mileage might vary slightly based on the temperature, terrain and other factors such as usage of the air conditioning, but still is quite considerable as its one of the EVs with the longest range next only to the likes of the Tesla Model S. For those using the vehicle for daily commute, this means you would ideally need to charge the vehicle only once in 3-4 days.
Electric Propulsion Unit
The engine or Electric Propulsion Unit of the Bolt EV comes with a 200 hp capable motor that generates 266 lb-ft of motoring torque from zero. This means that there is no need to rev up your vehicle as you would do in one with a gasoline engine and the car is ready to go as soon as you start it up electronically. This electric motor takes you vehicle from 0 to 60 (after an initial movement) in a blazing 6.5 seconds.
Battery & Power
The Bolt EV comes with a standard 60kWh Lithium-ion battery, which is also the standard and most preferred type of battery across most EVs due to its charge retaining capacity and slow self-discharge rate of about 5% per month. The battery includes a liquid thermal management technology to keep it ready for use on demand. The vehicle also uses regeneration technology and an electronic transmission selector for on-demand regeneration. There is an available DC Fast Charging capability kit that can be installed. This allows you to quickly charge up the vehicle at available public DC fast charging points to give you enough power to go on for another 90 miles within half an hour.
