Worker Shows Off Forklift Skills To Win National Contest

Forklifts play a major role in the daily activities of many firms up and down the UK, as well as in other countries around the world. These handy vehicles can be used to perform a range of tasks that would otherwise prove impossible.

These days, there are lots of superb quality used forklift trucks for sale, which is great news for bosses who are on the lookout for vehicles to add to their fleets. Without spending a fortune, they can stock up on excellent trucks that help ensure their operations run smoothly.

However, it is not just the vehicles themselves that count. These trucks are nothing unless there are skilled operators on hand to get the most out of them. One man who certainly knows a thing or two about the vehicles is Richard Janus. The forklift driver recently secured first place in a national forklift competition.

The Wincanton employee was crowned RTITB Operator of the Year 2013. To earn the title, he went through a number of rounds, including an online theory test, live heats and a grand finale. This last hurdle involved a day of grueling tests that challenged both theory and knowledge skills, along with operational abilities.

Mr. Janus accepted his prize at a recent gala dinner that was by attended by guests from across the warehousing and logistics industry. One of those present at the event was Jane Willis, director of the Health and Safety Executive’s cross-cutting interventions directorate. Addressing the audience, she thanked the RTITB and its sponsors for organizing the competition and congratulated the finalists on their achievements.

Also speaking at the dinner, operations director at RTITB Laura Nelson stated that the Operator of the Year competition is a great way to recognize and celebrate the hard work and commitment of those responsible for boosting safety and standards. She remarked: “The tireless dedication of our accredited organizations and their commitment to safety standards are the reasons why this industry has such skilled operatives. This is as much their competition as it is ours, because without them there would be no Operator of the Year.

” Meanwhile, in an emotional speech, Mr. Janus said: “I want to thank RTITB and the sponsors for putting on this competition, for allowing me and the other finalists to show our skills. “The forklift operator, who was joined on stage by his wife Dorotik, was awarded a brand new Toyota Ago in recognition of his achievements.

Contests like this that showcase the abilities of the best forklift drivers highlight the impact effective training can have. In addition to sourcing suitable second hand forklift trucks, it is vital that managers ensure that their personnel have all the training and development opportunities they require in order to function effectively. As well as helping to boost safety, this can also increase efficiency, so it is an investment well worth making.

When managers are on the lookout for new trucks or training opportunities for their staff members, they can head online. The web is a fast and convenient means of accessing these resources.
